Hello there!
I’m Roel, born near a town called Den Bosch in the Netherlands. In 2018, I finally succumbed to my wanderlust and quit everything to start a life of full time travel while building my freelancing business.
Did I succeed?
Yes, I think I did. Does this mean I found riches and luxury? Probably not according to conventional definitions. But in the years since I left my home country, I’ve done and seen more than I could imagine. I found out I’m a driven freelancer, someone who thoroughly enjoys the freedoms that this lifestyle brings.
The same freedoms that give me enough time to work on my travel blog Beat The Trail, for example. A blog that aims to get people excited about unique, often ignored, adventurous destinations.
Thanks to my freelance gigs and a strong affinity for marketing, I’ve developed myself as a copywriter, a creator of visual and text-based content, a WordPress website builder, content strategist, destination marketeer, SEO writer, B2C communicator, and storyteller.
But my wanderlust and volunteering work have also landed me in many unique situations that taught me everything from random tricks to invaluable soft skills in many different roles. I’ve been a (novice) painter, handyman, wilderness guide, willing listener, reindeer handler, lasso thrower, and dog caretaker. I’ve sat and talked with businessmen, students, farmers, and nomads and I’ve been fortunate enough to experience a slice of their daily lives.
What am I trying to say here?
I’m saying that besides the needs of businesses and the technical demands of SEO marketing, I also learned a lot about what drives people, what goes on in their lives, and how to connect to audiences from all walks of life.
My travels contribute to my understanding of the world. And this is invaluable in marketing, if you ask me. Not just to push engagement or to make sales numbers go ‘woosh’, but also to communicate with your target audience in an authentic and meaningful way.
Let’s work together to make that happen. Feel free to browse my portfolio, and don’t forget to drop me an email! I’m always eager to create new stories and epic tales that leave lasting impressions.
Every brand needs a story, every story needs a hero. Where’s yours?
